A Glimpse of Koh Samui

Koh Samui is a magnificent and perfect place to enjoy the beach experience because it has some of the most popular beaches in Thailand.

From the less - developed small islands like the Island lake of Ang Thong Marine national Park, which inspired Alex Garland’s novel The Beach to the simple beach huts of Maya beach on Kho PhiPhi, Samui is a favorite destination in Thailand.

Accomodation

More than a hundred affordable bungalow resorts dot the island. The accommodation ranges from very remote and primitive to the moderately priced.

The Fishing Village

For the freshest fish, which are direct from the boats, you need to go to the fishing village of Nua Thanon.

Nua Thanon is a Muslim community on Koh Samui. The people are said to have migrated from Pattani; a place bordering Malaysia at the far South of Thailand.

The people came with their distinctive high — bowed boats, painted and brightly patterned. The village is a bit poor now and the numbers of fish are beginning to decline.

Besides the Muslim element in Hua Thanon, there are other peoples like the Chinese, Indians and of course the Thais.

Samui province as a whole is peopled by these groups. Though the village may be poor, it is still the best place to go for fresh fish.

Ang Thong Marine Park

Besides some beautiful little beaches in this breathtaking group of islands, there are some strangely patterned formations shaped by erosion.

These islands can be seen from Samui but geographically they are different from the other islands in the region. For example, one island has a ’sink hole’, which is totally enclosed by walls of rock in its centre.

The Ang Thong islands rise from other ones in the region. There is also the spectacular rises from the sea itself, walls of rock ascending hundreds of meters into the sky.

Full Moon Party

The party usually begins at sun set when the orange moon makes its appearance over the white sand beach. Small tables are arranged on the beach and thousands of lamps lit.

A few years ago, Paradise Bungalow’s owner and a group of tourists observed that the most beautiful moon was in Koh Phangan. Because of this, between 7 thousand to 10 thousand people from all over the world visit the beach each month. There is speculation that it might now be banned.

The crowd includes jugglers, dancers, fire eaters, fire works display, reggae, trance and much more.
